Publisher's Description:

Points Import for SolidWorks - Points Import for SolidWorks is a Point file import add-in for SolidWorks®. This add-in gives SolidWorks the ability to import point coordinate data from text Point files.

Points Import for SolidWorks reads the coordinate data stored in Point files and imports it into SolidWorks. A Point file is essentially a text file containing the x, y and z coordinate data of a point on each line. Points Import for SolidWorks reads this coordinate data and creates point objects for each points in a SolidWorks document. The points can be imported as a 3D Sketch in a SolidWorks part or assembly document or a 2D Sketch in a drawing document. The points can also be joined by lines or a spline. This is helpful when the points in the point file are stored in a particular order such as a path of motion of an object, points on the boundary of an object or hole in an object, etc.

Points Import for SolidWorks is very easy to use as it adds new commands to SolidWorks. It also adds a submenu to the SolidWorks menu called "PointsImport".

The 'PointsImport' submenu consists of the following commands:

# Import - Import a Points file

# Help - Display the Points Import for SolidWorks help file

# Register - Register your copy of Points Import for SolidWorks

# About - Display the Points Import for SolidWorks About box

Points Import for SolidWorks comes with detailed documentation for each command as well as a tutorial to get you started in the shortest possible time.

The Points File Format

A Point file format is basically a text file containing the x, y and z coordinates of a point on each line. Usually the coordinates are stored in the XYZ order. However, points are sometimes stored in the YXZ order. This is common in survey data where the YXZ order is referred to Northing, Easting and Elevation. Sometimes each point in the point file has a point number and/or description.

Points Import for Solidworks

Import function seemed to work OK, but interface is not very intuative. Also, trying to import the points into Solidworks connecting with a spline did not work after numerous attempts. What I could import was not editable, nor selectable, so made the import worthless. Also, the price of 195 Euros for the plug-in is ridiculous.

powerful little add-in

Simply amazing little add-in for solid works. I was looking for a program that would let me visually represent a 3 dimensional data stream fast and easily. I found it. This program let me plot over 65,000 points in solidworks in under 5 minutes!!! Very useful for statistical research.

If there really was a 10 day trial..

I loaded the Points Import addin for solid works. It said I had a 10 day or 10 try trial, when I clicked cancle, then import again it said the same thing.

So I was never able to try it.

I sent a e-mail to the support and they said just click cancle and use the 10 day trial. Still doesn't work. So I still haven't used it.

For the $50 the software is they should just let it work and have some message that keeps coming up every 5 minutes until you pay the $50.00. It is hard to spend money when you don't know if something works.

my 2 cents towards the $50.00

2D import

This is the only software that I have found that can convert the Txt file data into Solid works. I would have hoped that I would be able to import 2D TXT files into a 2D drawing, but otherwise this is an exelent program.
